Our Mission & Vision
Restoring humanity, dignity and healing to individuals facing homelessness.
Homelessness and abject poverty do not discriminate. They affect every kind of person at any stage of their lives. Individuals facing homelessness live isolated lives without a community that cares for and supports them. The stigma around homelessness and the fear of homeless people is severely dehumanising, and our mission is to restore humanity and dignity to these individuals.
Lulama is a Xhosa word meaning restoration, healing and recovery. The name of this initiative was incredibly intentional as I wanted it to symbolise our main aim, to heal people and restore health. I drew inspiration from Jeremiah 30:17 in which God declares, ‘For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal.’ By starting Lulama, I wanted to share this message of redemption, restoration and healing that the Lord offers every single one of us.
For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal.
Matthew 25:44-45 shows us that helping strangers who are sick, hungry, or thirsty is like helping Jesus Christ himself, so we should find Jesus in each individual we encounter and serve them as we would serve our Lord and Saviour.
Lulama is an initiative that aims to heal people, restore their health and treat them with humility and dignity. Not to engage with them as if they are sub-human, but instead to reach out and hold their hands, guide them through a process of finding themselves again, and to see each individual transformed and renewed by the power of Jesus Christ.
